Srinagar, Nov 29: A three-vehicle accident took place on Saturday morning near Ghat No. 25 on the Nishat–Dalgate road after freezing water on the road turned into a slippery layer of ice.
According to police, the vehicles were travelling from Nishat toward Dalgate when they suddenly skidded on the icy surface and hit each other near the lakeside bend. The accident involved a military vehicle (54 QAT), a Maruti Alto (JK01R 5659), and an Innova.
Police said water flowing across the road during the night had frozen into a thick sheet of ice by morning, making the stretch very dangerous for drivers. As the vehicles approached the bend, drivers were unable to brake in time, leading to a chain collision.
No deaths were reported. However, a few passengers in the civilian vehicles received minor injuries and were given first aid at nearby health centres. All are stated to be stable.
Traffic on the busy road was affected for some time until police and volunteers removed the damaged vehicles and cleared the route.
Authorities have urged drivers to be extremely careful during winter, maintain distance between vehicles, and avoid sudden braking on icy roads.
